Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said today that Kiev “will win again” in the conflict with Russia, with the help of weapons sent from abroad, especially the American Harpoon anti-ship missiles that are being brought to the country from Denmark.
In a lengthy Facebook post today, Reznikov also thanked many countries that had replenished Ukrainian depots with 155mm artillery shells, and praised US deliveries of 155mm M777 anti-tank tanks, as well as more than 100 drones of some types.
“Our country’s coastal defense will be reinforced with Harpoon missiles that will be operated by trained Ukrainian groups,” he said.
The development comes as earlier in the week US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that Denmark would send an unspecified number of such missiles to Ukraine.
Boeing’s A / U / RGM-84 Harpoon missiles are the standard US Navy anti-ship vehicles with a range of more than 100 km. They can be guided by radar and fly near the sea surface until they reach the target. At the end point they perform a climbing maneuver to hit it from above.
Harpoons are issued by ships or aircraft.
Reznikov also cited locally produced Neptune missiles, which Kiev says it used to sink the Russian ship in April.
Reznikov is not the first official to make such statements about the Black Sea war, which has been controlled by the Russian navy since the start of the conflict.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko also said earlier that the United States was preparing a plan “to destroy the Russian Black Sea Fleet,” which was quickly denied by the Pentagon.
