Ukraine’s attempts to join the European Union have met with resistance from Austria, which has disappointed Ukraine.
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg has said that Kiev should not be offered membership in the 27-nation bloc and should be considered an alternative way to develop EU-Ukraine ties.
Ukraine has called the comments strategically short-sighted and has not expected such resistance from any country in the union.
The European Union has backed Ukraine during the war, punishing Russia for its occupation with sanctions.
