The UN nuclear watchdog said Iran plans to install two more devices in its advanced centrifuges, which would allow Tehran to rapidly enrich more uranium, he said.
The decision to deploy these new devices to IR-6 centrifuges at the Natanz underground plant comes after the International Atomic Energy Agency on June 8 decided to censor Iran. The agency said Iran had failed to provide “credible information” on nuclear material found at three undeclared nuclear plants in the Islamic Republic.
Even before UN agency members voted, Iran stopped two devices used by the UN to monitor uranium enrichment at the Natanz nuclear plant. Iranian officials have also threatened to take more steps as the crisis threatens to escalate further.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, stated on Thursday that during the meeting held in Vienna, he told the members that Iran is planning to install new equipment in Natanz, respectively equipment that will enable more rotation. rapidly centrifuges used for uranium enrichment.
IR-6 centrifuges can produce uranium ten times faster than the first generation of centrifuges, which was limited in the 2015 agreement between Iran and world powers.
Under the nuclear deal, Iran should limit uranium enrichment in exchange for easing sanctions. But in 2018, then-US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the deal and reinstated sanctions.
Since then, talks are under way in Vienna on reviving an agreement aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear program.
Experts have warned that Iran has enriched uranium to 60 percent purity, while 90 percent purity is the level for the production of nuclear weapons.
Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes even though UN experts and Western intelligence have warned that Tehran is aiming to develop nuclear weapons.
