US, clearing efforts continue in areas hit by tornadoes

Destruction and dozens of dead have left behind tornadoes that hit 6 American states.

“This is likely to be one of the strongest tornado waves in the country’s history. “We will overcome this situation together and the federal government will not abandon the communities of the affected regions,” said President Biden.

Much of the small town of Mayfield in Kentucky has been devastated by powerful storms.

“Our whole city just looks like a ruined area. We have received the most extraordinary help from the emergency teams, which are doing a very good job “, said the mayor of Mayfield, Kathy O’nan.

The building, where Myna Smith previously treated her patients, has been severely damaged.

“Patients were waiting in this space,” she says.

Now, her mental health clinic has been devastated by tornadoes.

A candle factory has been destroyed and there are fears that 110 workers were inside it when it was hit by the storm.

“The whole building collapsed,” Kyanna Parsons Perez said in a video she filmed minutes after the building collapsed.

Footage filmed with a drone shows the level of destruction in Boulin Green, Kentucky, after being hit by a tornado with winds that reached speeds of 240 kilometers per hour.

“This is very serious, people lost their homes and their lives. “It can not be described in words,” said Jimmy Flemming.

The tornadoes destroyed an Amazon warehouse in Eduardsville, Illinois, where officials confirmed the deaths of at least six people.

“Today I urge you to pray for the victims and their families,” said Edwardsville Mayor Art Risavy.

There has also been extensive damage and casualties in the state of Arkansas.

Following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Biden, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, along with the federal emergency agency, FEMA will travel to Kentucky to assess the damage caused by the tornadoes./VOA/
