The American intelligence claims that a major change of strategy is being noticed by Moscow, which, according to it, has started to withdraw a part of the troops from the areas around Kiev.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had decided to “drastically reduce the offensive” in the Ukrainian capital and in Chernihiv. The United States confirms that there is indeed movement on the ground. Russia, according to them, is beginning to withdraw several forces, including the Tactical Groups of Russian Battalions.
Russian forces are now withdrawing to several northern areas to focus their attention on the eastern regions. The US thinks Russia will cover the withdrawal of its soldiers with airstrikes and artillery fire. US officials warn, however, that Russia’s stance may change again if conditions allow it to do so.
Such a move follows the launch of the next round of talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul, where the parties appear to each come with concessions. In America’s view, this is not a short-term regrouping of Moscow troops, but a long-term move as Russia, according to CNN, is constantly facing setbacks in the north. What worries the US is keeping its European allies united in their stance to exert economic pressure on Moscow, as Washington expects the pressure to continue with the aim of forcing Russia to accept the peace deal and end the fighting.
