Authorities in the U.S. city of Minneapolis have released footage of officers shooting dead a 22-year-old African-American man after entering his home.
According to the police, Amir Locke was killed by the officers in his apartment after he was “pulling a pistol from the blanket with which he was covered”.
It took ten seconds for the officers to enter the apartment with their key until the shooting at Locke. The young man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The local daily Star Tribune wrote that Locke’s name was not mentioned in the search warrant, and no warning was heard in the video from police.
Lawyers for the deceased’s family said he possessed a “legal firearm” and had no criminal record. “We want justice for our son,” his mother told the media. In the video, the officers are seen using a key to open the main door of the apartment and after being inside they shout: “Police, we have a control mandate”.
Minneapolis is the city where George Floyd was killed during police arrest in 2020 which was followed by outrage and mass protests.
