A draft resolution was presented to the US Congress to honor human rights activist Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, a survivor of sexual violence during the Kosovo war.
The initiative belongs to a member of the US House of Representatives, Colin Allred, who calls on the US to commit to ensuring that the Serbian government investigates and prosecutes all those responsible for sexual violence during the war in Kosovo.
Democrat Allred is the representative of the state of Texas and Krasniqi-Goodman is a resident of this state. After consideration in the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the document passes to the House of Representatives.
“I am very inspired by Vasifje’s courage to share her painful story of her grief and to shed light on the reality of sexual violence committed by the Serbian army and police during the Kosovo war,” Allred said.
“Reports of sexual violence in Ukraine are a clear reminder that we must not forget the tragedies of the past and shed light on the stories of survivors so that we can work to identify responsibility and ensure that this “It should never happen again,” he added.
Krasniqi-Goodman said that the presentation of the draft resolution condemning rape as a weapon of war and emphasizes the need for justice and accountability, is a moment of pride for him as well as for the “20,000 survivors of sexual war crimes in Kosovo and worldwide ”.
