The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received in a meeting representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), who he said are “Tirana’s allies in difficult days.”
Veliaj highlighted some investments that the Municipality of Tirana is making in cooperation with the EBRD. He gave the good news of turning the River Bank area into a linear park, as a follow-up to the Orbital Forest project.
“We have identified the area of the River Bank to turn it into a linear park with trees, but in the meantime we are in the last steps for the completion of the financing scheme of the part of the Orbital Forest, which crosses the Tirana River. This project will not only have the function of prevention and fortification for floods, landslides and problems that we have solved on the river bank, but it turns the Tirana River into a promenade. “Where there is greenery, parks and bicycle lanes, the value of the property increases because everyone wants to have a house nearby.” underlined Veliaj.
The mayor added that other investments, in cooperation with the EBRD, are related to improving water quality in the city, as well as improving public transport.
EBRD Director of Infrastructure, Susan Goeransson, said that Tirana is a city that has good investment ideas.
“Tirana is part of the family of green cities, so we always turn our eyes here for good ideas. Today we had a fantastic meeting, discussing ways we can work on the Orbital Forest project, improve transportation and improve water quality. “We are pleased to work with the mayor and his team.” she concluded.
