The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj received in a meeting the representative for trade from Great Britain, Martin Vickers, together with his delegation, accompanied by the British Ambassador to Albania, Alastair King-Smith.
Veliaj expressed his gratitude for the support that Great Britain has given to Albania.
“The special relationship between Great Britain and Albania is beyond the two wings of politics. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Special Envoy for the Balkans is here to strengthen trade relations, both in creative industries and among young people“, Said Veliaj.
The Mayor underlined the fact that this year is the 100th anniversary of the special relations between Great Britain and Albania, which will continue for the next 100 years.
“We are planning a fantastic calendar, not only because Tirana is the European Capital of Youth, but because we have the 100th anniversary of the relations between Great Britain and Albania. We talked about opportunities to connect with mayors who are probably piloting and experimenting with the same concepts we are working on today, such as the creative industries, coding, working with young people. I can not wait for this special 100th anniversary of the relations between Albania and Great Britain, Tirana to be the epicenter of the celebrations, but also of the planning for the next 100 years“, Said Veliaj.
Martin Vickers, Boris Johnson’s trade delegate, said the UK has an interest in investing in Tirana.
“I believe this is a clear message from the UK that we are showing a closer interest. We look at opportunities you can grow your economy. You have young people, who are a dynamic workforce and we would love to work closely together. I hope British companies come here and invest safely, they need to make sure they have the right environment to work, which I think is taking shape in Tirana“, Concluded Vickers.
