The decision of the Municipality of Tirana to limit the circulation of heavy vehicles and concrete mixers during the day has given the first positive effects.
The builders’ association has opposed the new rule, but the mayor Erion Veliaj, in a meeting he held today with the municipal police, stressed that he will not withdraw from this decision.
Traffic, said Veliaj, from all reports, camera measurements, or traffic light measurements, today has decreased significantly compared to previous months. Veliaj responded to the statement of the Construction Association that he would take the case to court with a direct request to the judges.
“I would call on every judge to think carefully when giving a decision to drive a concrete mixer, or trucks, contrary to the measures taken by the Municipality of Tirana! Think carefully when removing barriers, when removing restrictions and road railings, which are there to protect people from cars! “Judges will have to respect the will of the people, not only because we are in the year of youth, because we do not do just that, but we really have to behave like a European city, where everyone respects their own space.”
In the meeting with the police, Veliaj announced that the Municipality of Tirana, within the “European Youth Capital”, will open calls for all those young men and women who want to become part of the Municipal Police.
“We want to increase the team of the Municipal Police, of this family that does one of the most difficult jobs in this city, with 100 young boys and girls. We want to offer the same service, both in Ndroq and in Linza, in Kashar and in km 29 of Krraba, where we share with Elbasan. “Above all, for the increased influx of foreigners, delegations, friends of Albania and Tirana, who will come for the big occasion where we are the European Capital of Youth”, said the mayor.
