The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, rejected the rumors that the Conference League final could have been moved to Athens, due to the debates with the Albanian Football Federation.
During the interview on Top Albania Radio, Veliaj stressed that there has never been such a risk.
“I will always stick to some principles to have transparency in football, as we have in many other fields. This is not played by the ball! Not only have we never had a risk of the final going to Athens, but I say I’m sorry that a part of us rejoices when there is such fake news and promotes it.
I also saw your colleagues talking about the Greek media and pumping up a fake thing. This is a moment that, if we did not speak well of each other, how will the world speak well of us? So, it’s time to show our best side and then, after the finale is over, we can get back to the debates, as we need to have debates on some topics. “Yes, this is a time to work together and to honor Tirana”, said Veliaj.
