Architects, computer engineers, journalists and pharmacists from Kosovo, Montenegro, Italy, etc., who received Albanian citizenship, also swore before the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, for loyalty to the Albanian state and respect for the Albanian Constitution.
In his speech, Veliaj said that Tirana is destined to grow and that it is already becoming a destination for many tourists and hosts of major events. He added that “we must not create populist divisions between Albania and Kosovo.”
“This is a critical moment for all brothers and sisters from Kosovo, who join us today as citizens of the Republic of Albania. I can say nice words, but if we do not reflect, we have not learned anything. This is a critical moment. Sometimes, the politics of the day takes us forward and we say one more word, which should not be said; we make any more gestures, which is not necessary; we try to win 4 votes here and 5 votes there, we switch to populism, without understanding what effect it brings to the public “, said Veliaj.
The Mayor said that the things that unite us between Kosovo and Albania are more than those that divide us. “But I hope that young Albanian citizens, originally from Kosovo, will be bridges of communication. We have 99 things that unite us. But if there is a topic that divides us, which deserves to be debated, let’s do the debate in a civilized way. If we call ourselves a family, let’s talk like family. I believe that this kind of hiccup can be overcome if people, especially those who divide the time between Albania and Kosovo, play the role of communicator, to better translate reality. The things that unite us, are not only more numerous, but are also more important, than the small tits of the day “, stressed the mayor Veliaj.
Meanwhile, he brought to attention the good news: The Municipality of Tirana will support for the first time Doku Fest, the festival that is organized in Prizren. “For the first time, the Municipality of Tirana will be part of Doku Fest as a sponsor because we believe that when a good ‘brand’ comes from our territories, it must be supported by all. As long as the main beneficiaries are an extraordinary contingent of boys and girls, artists, producers, directors, actors, who go from Tirana, I believe that it is the right decision for the Municipality of Tirana to support Doku Fest “, declared Veliaj.
Commenting on the events in Ukraine which was attacked by Russia, its neighbor, Veliaj brought the example of Italy, which has supported our country in the most important moments. He expressed the conviction that the citizens of Montenegro, who today become Albanian citizens, will contribute to cultivate the fantastic relationship that exists to date.
While underlining that Tirana is a city destined to grow, Veliaj said that the Albanian capital is already becoming a destination for many tourists and hosts of major events.
The 11 citizens who officially received Albanian citizenship were mainly from Italy, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Kosovo.
