British Home Secretary Priti Patel has announced the new plans that will be applied to enter Britain, starting from the control of passports through “contactless corridors”, thanks to facial recognition technology to foreign visitors, who will be verified criminal records, submit biographical and biometric data that will go through an automatic pre-vetting in criminal lists and databases up to the payment of 18 pounds as is done with the American ETA system.
According to the Home Office, which is the Ministry of the Interior and Immigration, entry to Britain will be prohibited to visitors who have been convicted for more than a year, who are people who repeatedly commit criminal offenses or pose a serious risk and do not serve the public good.
Airlines will be required to verify passengers’ pass-through devices before boarding, a system similar to that in the United States, Canada or Australia. The Minister of the Interior describes this system as a suitable border control for the 21st century.
Among the measures announced, the age of those who will enter through e-gates, or electronic gates, will be extended, even for children from 12 to 10 years old, reducing the travel time of British families and not only as happened in the times of last. These measures will enter into force in 2025.
In fact, after the pandemic, Britain has greatly simplified the process of obtaining visas and the airlines flying from London to Tirana and vice versa are full on every flight even though they fly on average 3-4 times a day or even more in the summer season .
