11-year-old Mackenzie O’Neill thinks he has fulfilled his biggest dream after ending up playing football with Lionel Messi while on holiday with his family.
Mackenzie O’Neill, from London, was playing beach soccer alone on the Caribbean island of Jumby Bay in Antigua, where she vacations every year, but on this occasion she had an unforgettable experience.
Messi, the record scorer of Barcelona and Argentina, was staying with his friends and family on the same beach where O’Neill was staying, reports KosovaPress.
Messi’s father and agent, Jorge, saw Mackenzie playing with a ball in the sand alone and immediately invited him to join the soccer superstar and his eldest son Thiago.
“Messi was with his family on the beach. I was alone and I started shooting my ball a few meters away from where they were,” Mackenzie told the Argentinian newspaper “Ole”.
“His father Jorge threw me a ball and asked me if I wanted to play with them and then we played football with Thiago and Messi for 45 minutes. Thiago is a fantastic player for his age and was not shy about playing. Playing with Messi was incredible,” added O’Neill.
Mackenzie didn’t have many conversations with Messi because of the language, but he got translation through his wife Antonella Roccuzzo and ended up spending some time with Messi’s family.
A young man was on the beach in Antigua and saw Messi and his family having a kickabout.
Messi’s dad invited him to join in and he later went swimming with the Messis and went out on their boat.
That’s a story he can tell for the rest of his life. pic.twitter.com/bgAHunWw5d
