A French navy frigate is anchored in the seaport of Durres, as part of the mission for security and stability in the region.
The La Fayette (FLF) Aconi frigate anchored in port today for a few days stop. This frigate is stationed in the central Mediterranean, as part of the missions of the regular presence of French warships in this maritime area and especially in the Adriatic Sea. FLF Aconi started active service in 1999, and is one of the five La Fayette type frigates of the Naval Action Force. As an undercover warship, Acon can specifically perform naval surveillance, reconnaissance, special forces deployment, or integrate into a Task Force in a crisis area. On the last day of her stay in our country, a joint exercise with our navy will take place.
In its announcement, the French Embassy in Tirana states, among other things, that the patrol Aconi enables France to acquire independent knowledge of the area, to contribute to the security of maritime access in Europe and to affirm the care that France shows for ensuring the freedom of sea and air traffic.
Cooperation with France’s allies is at the heart of Acon’s deployment. In this context, this frigate conducts several joint training sessions with NATO partners during its mission. Cooperation with Albania occupies a special place, which aims at mutual recognition and interaction between the French and Albanian navies, in the service of regional stability. During this stop in Durrës, the crew of “Aconi” will cooperate with the Albanian sailors in order to exchange experience and knowledge between Mediterranean partners, especially in the areas of police operations at sea, anti-breakdown efforts and military diving. These exchanges will make possible the preparation for the period of mutual training at sea that will take place on the day of Acon’s departure from Durrës, together with a vehicle of the Albanian Navy.
