Two Russian ‘Raptor’ class patrol boats in the Black Sea have been destroyed by a Ukrainian drone today.
Chief of General Staff Valeriy Zaluzhniy made the news public via a social media post.
“Two Russian Raptor class boats were wrecked at dawn near Zmiinyi Island today.” wrote Valeriy Zaluzhniy in the Telegram application.
Raptor-class vessels are small patrol vessels that carry about 20 tons and are intended to patrol coastal stretches and straits. These ships, which entered the Russian Navy about a decade ago, are mostly armed with machine guns.
The attacks on two ‘Raptor’ class ships come amid disagreements over the effectiveness of TB2 drones in operations against Russia. The drones had achieved iconic status in the war, being used to strike Russian armored vehicles and air defense systems.
TB2 was reportedly also involved in the sinking of the Russian warship Moskva earlier this month. Ukraine claimed to have attacked Moscow with missiles after being initially hit by a TB2 drone. Some reports say a TB2 was involved in an attack on two oil depots in Bryansk in Russia last week. The attack on Bryansk was significant as it saw the Ukrainian army penetrate 150 km into Russian airspace.
So far, however, there has been no reaction from the Russian side regarding the event.
