The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuçi., Last night at the headquarters of his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) stated that the preliminary voting results showed that the Serbian citizens voted in the referendum for constitutional changes in the judiciary.
Vuçi në said in a press conference that out of 97.02 percent of the processed votes, 60.48 percent of the citizens who went to the referendum confirmed the changes in the Constitution of Serbia, while 39.52 percent voted “against”.
He stressed that the difference between those who voted “for” and those who voted “against” the changes in the Constitution is about 400 thousand votes.
Polling stations closed at 20:00 and according to the latest official information from the Republican Election Commission, by 18:00 turnout was 25.25 percent.
Slightly more than 6.5 million citizens had the right to vote in more than 8,000 polling stations, who answered the question “Are you in favor of confirming the act amending the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia” by circling the answer “yes” or ” no ”.
The Republican Election Commission decided on Saturday night that Serbs from Kosovo vote in Krushumli, Raska, Novi Pazar and Vranje, as the Kosovo authorities did not allow voting to take place, except at the premises of the Liaison Office in Pristina or by post.
In terms of turnout, there is no census as a condition for the referendum to succeed and the deadline for announcing the official results is Friday, January 21, at 20:00.
If the citizens confirm the act in the referendum, then that act is considered approved on the day of the referendum.
After that, the Assembly of Serbia will take a decision on the promulgation of the act to amend the Constitution after the submission of the final report on the referendum./AA/
