Vucic swears: I will preserve Kosovo and Metohija as an integral part of Serbia

This is stated in the text of the oath that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vuçi., Made before the members of the Assembly on May 31, after winning the second five-year term in the April elections.

The text of the oath is defined by the Constitution of Serbia and is in accordance with the preamble of the highest legal act of the state, which states that “the province of Kosovo and Metohija is an integral part of the territory of Serbia.”

The preamble was incorporated into the Serbian Constitution in 2006, following the dissolution of the Serbia-Montenegro community when Vojislav Kostunica, then leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia, was head of government in Belgrade.

Can the president fulfill the oath?

“It’s completely irrelevant what Vucic will promise with the oath,” Dusan Janjic of the Forum for Ethnic Relations in Belgrade told Radio Free Europe, stressing the “separation of the text of the Constitution from reality.”
