It has been constantly promised that Tirana will have 24 hours of drinking water without interruption, but in fact, the citizens of Tirana are still waiting for certain times to have water in the taps.
The question of when the capital will have drinking water without interruption, was answered today by the director of Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage, Elton Kacidhja.
In an interview for the show “Top Talk”, he explained the three projects that will enable the solution of this problem and that a loan taken from the European Investment Bank will be used as a budget.
“I believe we have reached the final. We are close to concluding one of the biggest projects that Tirana will have, which will start this year, probably by the end of the summer.
It contains three main components and this is made possible thanks to the large loan that the Albanian government received, in cooperation with the European Investment Bank. About 80m euros in loans were taken to invest in the drinking water network for Tirana. Now we have to close the projects and start work“, Says Kacidhja.
Tirana, he explains, will have a new water source.
“We have Selita, Bovilla and Saint Mary. The White Stone fountain will be added. It is about 20-25 km line, that we will take the water from there and bring it to the Dajti basin. It will compensate for the water during the summer, when the level drops in Selita and Bovilla”.
Another investment is the pressure ring. “It is a large pipe that runs through Tirana and balances the water pressure in the city“, Says the director of UKT.
The third element is the minisons, which means: “Urban Tirana will be divided into 54 minizons, which will be connected to the pressure pipe and thus receive, autonomously, the water supply.”
But when will this project end?
The best scenario is 3 years, it can go up to 4, depending on the works, problems, Kacidhja answers.
