The U.S. Senate passed a gun control bill that includes more controls for buyers under the age of 21, $ 11 billion in mental health funding and $ 2 billion in school safety programs.
Fifteen Republicans joined Democrats in approving the measure with 65 votes in favor and 33 against, one of the most important firearms legislation in nearly three decades.

The US has the highest rate of firearm deaths. Over 900 people have been killed with guns in the US this year, including murder and suicide.
