Yevghen Sboromyrskiy was shaking so much that he could not put his cigarette to the brim as he watched his house burn down after being bombed by the Russians.
The blasts on Kiev’s northwestern front forced Sboromyrskiy’s neighbors to hide behind their fences. But Sboromyrskiy, stunned, stood in the middle of the road.
“I was opening the fridge to get some eggs. “Then a big boom was heard, the refrigerator fell on me and the whole house.”
When his neighbors started shouting that fuel could explode in the hut, Sboromyrskiy started running and then stopped and fell to his knees.
“This is my whole life,” he said. My wife managed to get out the window and thank God my kids had gone to the store 10 minutes ago. Thank God. That thing fell exactly in their room.
The second week of Russia’s offensive against Ukraine has seen increasingly deadly attacks.
