Fierce fighting is taking place on the streets of the besieged port city of Mariupol in Ukraine, but they, as well as Russian missiles that do not stop, are making it extremely difficult to rescue people trapped under the rubble of the bombed theater on Wednesday.
130 civilians have been evacuated from there, and thankfully, no casualties have been found so far in the destroyed building. But on the other hand, no rapid response teams are failing to pull out more survivors, while it is thought that at the time of the attack, the theater was housing more than 1,000 people, mostly women and children.
The building was bombed although signs were placed to indicate that there were civilians, including children.
Russia denies hitting the theater. Russia, meanwhile, bombed the outskirts of Kiev on Friday, and Russian missiles fired from the Black Sea hit western Ukraine near Lviv airport, more than three weeks after Russia’s war on the neighboring country began. The Western Command of the Ukrainian Air Force said on Facebook that two of the six missiles fired from the Black Sea were intercepted.
As the attack enters its fourth week, Russian forces have failed to take control of the capital Kiev, a key target of the Kremlin.
U.S. defense officials say it appears Russian forces on the ground remain stranded, making little or no progress as they continue to face what has been repeatedly described as fierce resistance from Ukrainian forces. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior US defense official said Russian forces, essentially frozen across the country, were not advancing and had difficulty even feeding and supplying weapons and ammunition.
