A young man’s rejected girlfriend has been jailed today after he created 30 fake profiles on Instagram in order to stage false allegations of sexual harassment for his ex-boyfriend.
Courtney Ireland-Ainsworth, 20, has denounced 22-year-old Louis Jolly for harassment and threats of physical assault – which brought him feelings of suicide as he was investigated by police for nearly four months.
She has given 10 statements to the police, which led to his arrest six times, spending a total of more than 80 hours in detention.
Ainsworth told police that her boyfriend had bombarded her with dirty messages after their separation, and that he had threatened to “stab you in the chest”.
Mr. Jolly was charged with physical assault and harassment and placed under house arrest for losing his job.
The young man said they had been together for almost two years but were separated in ‘acceptable’ terms in October 2019.
But Ainsworth had then started “deliberate and malicious lies” after she started dating her new boyfriend Declan Rice.
Prosecutor Paul Blasbery said she had made numerous phone calls to police from July through December 2020, showing messages on her Instagram accounts that she claimed came from Jolly.
But when police obtained the data from the Facebook network, they learned that 17 Instagram accounts had been created from two Ainsaorth emails with computer IP addresses coming from her home and mobile phone.
Jolly protested his innocence throughout the police interrogations, until the charges against him dropped and the girl admitted the manipulation.
In the victim’s testimony, he said: “There were times when I believed that it was not worth living anymore and that I was better off dead.”
As Ainworth wept as he confessed to the crime, Judge Ian Harris told him: “You set up a malicious network of manipulation for nearly five months, with accusations that had serious consequences for the victims.”
Ainsworth, from the British region of Cheshire, was jailed for 10 months by a Liverpool court for obstructing the course of justice.
She has received a 10-month non-contact order with the victim.
