The agenda for “Women, Peace and Security” is one of the main priorities of Albania in the framework of holding the presidency in the Security Council. Albanian Foreign Minister Olta Xhacka addressed the Council on the issue.
In the UN Security Council, chaired by Albania, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, chaired the Council’s high-level debate on the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda.
“Recent events around the world have drastically affected the prospects for women’s organizations, leading to the termination of concrete engagements. We need to strengthen cooperation and coordination with regional organizations, their voice to be heard in the Security Council. It is time to take our cooperation with regional organizations to a new level. “Particularly vital is this cooperation in the context of recent military coups and the seizure of power in some countries.”– said Olta Xhaçka
Present at the debate, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez said there was a consensus among member states on the importance of the agenda, but that the situation on the ground was moving in the opposite direction.
