Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández made no secret of his frustration with being eliminated in extra time by Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.
However, the coach of the “blaugrana” said that by excluding the first minutes, he had seen his team at a higher level, which gives hope for the future.
“I think we were better than Real in terms of dominating the game. We were careful in the transition and that’s the right way to be competitive. We can be proud because we competed against them and it is a step forward, regardless of the result. We are on the right track. “
Asked about some players, such as Ansu Fati, Pedri, or debutant Ferran Torres, the Barça coach explained:
“All three have helped the team and will help a lot, like Ferrani, Pedri, Ansu Fati. We saw what Ansu is able to do, got into the second half and made the difference.
Xavi also talked about another protagonist of the game, Luuk de Jong, who found the goal again:
“I said that Luuk is part of the team, after all we are Barça, the one who deserves to play on the field. How can we get rid of Luuk de Jong if he scores goals and develops good games. I have said before that he was an example for the team and if he continues to perform at these levels, he will continue to play. “
