Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the Three Seas summit that Ukraine could meet the energy needs of all initiative countries.
According to him, electricity exports from Ukraine can contribute to the energy balance of the 12 countries located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas, and help them become completely independent of Russian energy pressure.
“Ukraine has some of the most powerful gas storage facilities in the region and an extensive gas supply network. “Therefore, by cooperating with our neighbors, utilizing the capacities of Poland-Slovakia, Poland-Ukraine interconnectors, as well as liquefied natural gas and available terminals in the region, we can meet the needs of all three seas countries.”
At the start of the summit, Latvian President Egils Levits stressed the importance of “exploring the best ways to connect Ukraine with the rest of Europe.” “If a new iron curtain is coming down, it should sit on Russia’s border, not beyond its neighbors. “Today, Europe is incomplete without Ukraine.”said Levits.
The Ukrainian president added that Ukraine “should” be a member of the initiative.
“The supply of weapons to Ukraine, the supply of fuel, transport flows, green corridors for food exports, the migration of people, all this works through the territory of the countries participating in this initiative. the states of the Three Seas Initiative that are our connection to the free world ”.
Launched in 2016, the grouping of the three seas wants to facilitate the development of energy and infrastructure links between the 12 countries – all EU members.
