One person lost his life in Kiev after 4 Russian missiles hit the capital early Sunday morning.
The capital has long been off the radar of Russian attacks since June 5 when a train station was hit.
At least two apartment buildings, said Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko, were affected by the attacks, while authorities were able to save a 7-year-old girl from the rubble after much effort, including her mother. Searches for people inside the building are still ongoing, the mayor said.
Today’s attacks in the capital, Kiev, are said to have been launched by Tupolev bombers in the Caspian Sea – about 900 miles away. that there was nothing left to defend in the devastated city after months of fierce fighting.
The fall of Sievierodonetsk is a major loss for Kiev, as it seeks to retain control of the eastern Donbas region, a key military target for the Kremlin. The attacks come at a time when Russia has said it will transfer Iskander-M nuclear-capable missile systems to its ally Belarus in the coming months. The systems have a range of up to 500 kilometers.
Russia began its occupation on February 24 partly from Belarusian territory, which borders Ukraine to the north. Throughout the war, Moscow has used Minsk as a satellite base for some of its NATO airstrikes.
