Prime Minister Edi Rama was this afternoon in Kavaja, where he handed over the keys to the apartments to 153 families, who were left homeless by the November 26 earthquake.
In his speech, Rama said that the reconstruction process in Albania is different from that of other countries because the affected citizens have not invested any money in new houses.
He also did not spare irony for political opponents, while saying that although most of the citizens who enter the house are of democratic conviction, in the future no one can touch the lock and only its color can change them.
“I’m glad to say welcome home soon. Two years to rebuild homes is a pretty quick time, considering that across the sea in neighboring Italy today there are many families who are still in rolls and waiting to return home after the earthquake that knocked them out 15 years ago. We could have been even faster if we had not gotten into the middle of the pandemic.
Today when you return home is a source of pride and courage. We all need to see politics fall into the hands of doing the right thing. This is a reconstruction program unlike other countries as the affected families have not invested any money in building a house, as has happened in other countries. It is done with the money of the state budget and with the help of donors and at the end of the day it is a solidarity contribution. From the moment you enter the house you are its owner. “An area with such a high content of Democratic sympathizers, the maximum they can do to you later is to change the color of the lock because they cannot take the key from you”, said Rama.
