Despite awareness-raising work against domestic violence, cases seem to be increasing year by year.
The year 2021 has had an increasing number of cases of violence compared to 2020 which was also a year of pandemic and isolation. 807 women received psychological services at the Women’s Forum in Elbasan for 2020 and 847 in 2021.
Also increasing was the number of women who received free legal services or serious cases who were accommodated together with children in the shelter.
The main reason for the increase in cases of domestic violence according to psychologists remains lack of communication, patriarchal society in rural areas and jealousy. Economic causes do not seem to be decisive.
The increase in cases of violence has consequently increased the number of divorces, leading to a social crisis in Albanian society. Meanwhile, based on the situation, the Women’s Forum, in addition to the free legal service, has also increased the time frame for housing abused women together with their children.
