The aging of the population and the emigration of young people to EU countries has generated a gap in the labor market.
According to data from the National Employment and Skills Agency, in 2020 25,141 vacancies were announced. Older professionals have emigrated, while younger ones stay away from work.
“From my experience as an architect, an apartment with a square area of 100 square meters was closed for two months, here I refer to the years 2016-2019, while today I deliver this apartment for 4-6 months. I can never deliver the house on time as there is always a specialty that runs away. so we have no tile maker, electrician, plumber, or furniture maker. These professionals prefer to go abroad even though the salary has changed. In 2016, the payment for free professions was 35 thousand new Lekë, while today it goes to 60-70 thousand new Lekë. Young people do not like these professions“, Says the architect.
While the employment expert, Eranda Ymerali says that young people should be oriented towards that profession that the market demands. Having a law degree today is very difficult to find a vacancy, but the opposite happens if you are an IT specialist.
“There are new job positions in Albania, but we do not have qualified employees to meet these requirements. The alarm should be raised that in one educational institutions to focus more on the demands that the market demands. On the other hand, there is a high demand for EU countries and our young people are lured by good wages and leave the country.“, Says the employment expert.
Non-compliance with the Labor Code by the employer has led young people to seek employment in a foreign company or to leave Albania.
