Prime Minister Rama with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luigi Di Maio and the President of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano.
Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Puglia, Italy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the exodus of Albanians to the neighboring country.
During his speech at the Puglia Regional Council, which is also attended by the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio and the head of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, Rama considered Italy as the guardian angel of Albania.
Rama received from Emiliano the “Puglia Root” award.
“I do not know if I deserve all this. It is a tradition that when you receive an award you must also speak. I want to thank everyone in the hall. It is incredible to think that those people are us, the Albanians, it seems like a story that happened thousands of years ago, but in 30 years many things have changed, the changes in Albania have been incredible, but what makes everyone incredible is the change for the Albanians who arrived on that ship and today are an integral part of that society, there are almost half a million and 50 thousand who have a large or medium enterprise. For many years they are no longer seen by anyone as suspicious people. I remember that for us Italy was a dream. I had a Catholic grandmother who told me that Albanian is the language of your ancestors, while Italian is the language of the blues. Italy has been the guardian angel of Albania, since when it comes to talking about Albanians or when it comes to defending Albania. We were very happy when we went to Grandma to see not only the sea but also Rain. We went to watch TV but it was like watching movies. Then came this situation of confronting the reality of Italy and it certainly was not what we had seen on Rati’s screen much less on the Mediaset screen because it was a reality. They looked at us as suspicious. It was a turning point and a starting point for many others. There were thousands of desperate people who looked like aliens. “Even the moment of the earthquake was a moment of protection from Italy.” said Rama.
