A young man in Georgia, USA has been charged with the murder of his eight-month-old baby, which was left locked in the hot car when the father entered the police station to get his gun but was arrested.
Tuesday afternoon 20-year-old Davied Japez Mcorry Whatley, went to the Snellville police station to look for his licensed firearm that had been left with the department. But by conducting a data check – a practice carried out to prevent persons with precedents from carrying weapons – officers issued arrest warrants against him for violating parole.
According to officers, Whatley had never mentioned that he had left his baby Nova in the car while being arrested.
“He made no statement about the fact that he had left his daughter in the car two buildings away from the station,” Detective Jeff Manley told the hearing.
But Whatley’s family says the detainee had begged officers to check on his daughter, who had left him in the car.
“It’s not like they say, they just had to listen, but they thought he was lying,” Leticia Padilla, the grandmother of the deceased child, told WSB-TV.
She added that officers had assured her that someone would go to the child. Ms. Padilla further said that her son had called a friend who had contacted her, to tell her that the desolate Nova was in the car.
About seven hours after Whatley’s arrest, Grandma contacted Nova Medical Center, which had been pronounced dead.
“They can say whatever they want. “They have to cover their tracks,” Padilla told the network
Whatley was on parole at the time of the tragedy, and has now been charged by authorities with second-degree murder for the death of his daughter, said Lisa Vorrasi, an officer with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
