The sudden increase in the number of coronavirus cases has led to almost 100 schools in Kosovo switching to online education.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Iliriana Pylla, said that there are almost 8000 students and teachers infected. “Currently there are 1 thousand 375 actively infected teachers and 6 thousand 344 students.
The Ministry of Education has decided that the school task forces in cooperation with the Municipal Directorates of Education, depending on the situation presented by the pandemic, will take a decision to transfer the lessons to the online platform “, said the spokesperson. Despite this situation, she clarified that the leaders of health institutions, those of education and experts on education issues have estimated that schools should be the last to be closed. The Task Force, in its meeting held on January 20, 2022, issued a recommendation to consider the possibility of transferring the class or school to scenario C (online learning) in one of the following cases:
• If within 3 days 2 or more cases of infection of students with SARS-Covid-19 virus within a class are confirmed;
• If more than 5% of school children are currently infected with the SARS-Covid-19 virus;
• If the degree of infection among school staff is such that absences from work make it impossible to organize the learning process with physical presence.
