Pope Francis has called for an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine, which is gaining momentum.
Speaking in front of an audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope said he was heartbroken and that weapons should be released. He stressed that God loves those who want peace and invited people to participate in an international day of prayer and fasting for peace.
“Those who wage war forget humanity. It does not come from the people. They do not take into account the daily life of the people, but put party interests before everything else and believe in the devilish and perverse logic of weapons, which is farthest from the mind of God. They are brothers and sisters, for whom we must urgently open humanitarian corridors. They should be welcomed. Let the guns be silent. God is with the peacemakers, not with those who use violence… It is the people who are the real victims, who pay the price of war foolishness with their own skinSaid the Pope
The day before, he paid a surprise visit to the Russian embassy to convey to the Moscow ambassador his concern about Russia’s occupation of Ukraine.
