After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia’s defense forces – including its nuclear weapons – were on high alert, the Pentagon responded by calling the announcement “just as unnecessary as escalating.”
The answer was given by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby during a conference Monday.
Kirby noted that the Pentagon is “reviewing and analyzing” Putin’s announcement.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he was “calm with the United States’ strategic preventive stance and our ability to defend our homeland and our partners.”
