Holding Serbian elections in Kosovo / Kurti: There is no preliminary agreement, we do not agree to negotiate through the heads of liaison offices

Kurti told Kosovo reporters that the European Union was not happy with the fact that it did not accept that everything about holding Serbian elections in Kosovo be concluded within a suggested exchange letter between liaison officials.

“I do not know how the developments around the Serbian elections affect the dialogue when they invite us for talks in the next round. Of course we will be ready to engage with dedication, constructiveness and creativity…

It is not up to me to make an assessment since it is the mediator who makes an assessment of when and when is the right moment for the next meeting…“, He said.

The Prime Minister further spoke about the issue of elections in Serbia, which was requested to be held in Kosovo for the Serb community to vote.

“I would not say that the Government of Kosovo has decided not to hold Serbian elections in Kosovo, but there is no prior agreement and that of course it is a condition for holding those elections that has not been met. We have been waiting for a normal exchange of letters, of their request but this has not happened.

The European Union has not been happy with the fact that I have not agreed to have everything wrapped up in a suggested exchange letter between liaison officers.

I am convinced that the agreement should be between an exchange of letters between the Government of Kosovo and the Government of Serbia. We are the instances, the authorities of the respective countries and we should agree on those elections… As it is the issue has taken a different direction.

We have expressed our regret but more than that I do not…“, He said.

Speaking about his governance and visits to municipalities, Prime Minister Kurti said he would visit Serb-majority municipalities during his second year in office.
