Leaders of major French energy companies urged citizens and businesses this Sunday to limit energy consumption to prepare for an impending crisis.
“We must work collectively to reduce our consumption in order to regain room for maneuver.” said the executives of Engie, EDF and Total in a public letter.
According to Reuters the written letter showed decline in Russian gas deliveries as well as limited electricity production due to maintenance problems.
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said France intends to fill its gas storage facilities by early autumn.
The Russia-Ukraine war has consistently shown Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, spurring an effort to find alternative energy sources.
They are continuing their efforts to find new sources of gas and build a floating liquefied natural gas terminal at the northern port of Le Havre.
France is facing rising energy prices and is constantly planning a system to deal with the situation.
