Just 10 days after its opening, the Tirana Zoo has had a record number of visitors. For the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, this large influx of attendees of one of the largest investments of this year in the capital is the main indicator of success.
In today’s meeting of the Municipal Council, the mayor Erion Veliaj, said that, “the numbers of thousands of visitors are our certificate of success”.
“We have just inaugurated the Zoo and we have had record numbers of visitors, which clearly show that it was something that Tirana lacked. I also believe that we have given the area not only an additional parking space and increase the value of the property, but also another relaxing and certainly extraordinary space for the youth and children of the capital “, stressed Veliaj.
Further, the mayor of Tirana said that after this investment a lot of attention will be paid to the maintenance of the new Zoo. “We have just brought in new pairs of animals. A young pair of lions and a young pair of tigers. For our zoo to be certified as part of the network of zoos in Europe, we can not buy animals, which means that they are only exchanged between zoos. So we have finally taken the whole contingent and we are waiting for other animals “, explained Veliaj.
Following the good management of the auxiliary spaces within the new Zoo, the opening of some classes for didactic purposes will be attempted. “For all those who criticize us and represent that political force when the lion slipped on the magnets and ate the potatoes, they will certainly have to reflect that it is day and night and as the philosophy of treating that space. As we have seen the spaces are larger for the animals. And they were the ones when they managed the former Municipality of Farka who had come to the animals by occupying spaces with the premises. Today the situation is day and night. I was filled with indignation at the sight of the man throwing stones at the animal. At one point I thought the tiger would say: Let’s change places, you go in and let me out. Of course this does not go without all the media hysteria: Has the tiger filled all its teeth ?; Is there a prosthesis? Or are there any? “These are Albanian wonders,” Veliaj declared.
The Mayor of Tirana assured that none of these actions against animals will discourage the mission for the new Zoo. “We will try not to speak in English to our European zoo colleagues, neither to those who stone animals, nor to our political colleagues or relevant portals who want to become a tiger dentist. We will not allow a portal of fines or an irresponsible behavior of an individual who thinks he is wilder than wild animals to discourage us from our mission, “concluded Veliaj.
