Nearly a month after the trial began, an Athens court has unanimously declared that Greek pilot Babis Anagnostopoulos is guilty of the premeditated murder of his wife Caroline Crouch, 20, a year ago at his home in the outskirts of the capital.
The 7 judges and lawyers concluded that the 34-year-old pilot was sentenced to life imprisonment for premeditated murder and 11 years and six months for animal cruelty and violation of the law for continuous false dumping as well as a fine of 21 thousand euros.
The court did not consider any mitigating circumstances and unanimously rejected his attempt to present the murder as a “crime of passion” in a state of anger after a quarrel that had “disturbed” the senses, a fact that could have resulted in a reduced sentence.
The prosecutor of the case has emphasized that all the facts show that the murder was cold-blooded and planned. The 34-year-old, after putting their 11-month-old baby to sleep, strangled his wife with a pillow while she slept, even lying on it, until she gave up the ghost and then began to implement the plan. innocence.
At first he brought the baby near her, hung the family dog on the fence outside, staged a series of details up to the phone calls to the police and then claimed to the police that the armed thieves entered the house at night, tying him up. and choking him and his wife in the bedroom while their daughter slept.
37 days after the tragedy investigators looking at the analysis of data from a victim’s smart watch and with special procedures have discovered inconsistencies in the narration of events, until they arrested him and he admitted the murder. Anagnostopoulos has been described by the victim’s family lawyer as “a very talented actor” who thought he had committed the “perfect crime” for which he was shamelessly unrepentant.
