The name of Bajram Begaj, who was proposed as a candidate for President the day before by the Socialists, will go to the assembly today, to be voted by the deputies at 18:00.
Initially, this Saturday at 10:00, the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party will meet, where the votes for the candidate Begaj will be collected. The signatures of at least 20 deputies are needed to support a candidate, who will then be formally deposited in the Assembly. The deadline set by the Conference of Presidents is 12:00 today.
At 16:00 the Law Commission will convene to review the constitutional legal criteria of the candidate proposed by the Socialists.
Then, at 18:00, the session in the Assembly will start. Today will be the fourth round of the process for the election of the President, but the first where there is a candidate, whose name is deposited in the assembly. The opposition has not submitted any proposal, boycotting the process, on the grounds that Edi Rama will elect the President himself and is playing a farce with the invitation he made to the right to elect them head of state. A day ago, Enkelejd Alibeaj and the group of deputies who support him, said that they will boycott today’s vote, while Sali Berisha’s group announced that it will be present, because “the new statute prohibits this political force from boycotting ”.
In this round, 71 votes, which the majority has, are enough to appoint Ilir Meta’s successor, who will hand over the task on July 24.
