The Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovi ka confirmed on May 26 that he will take part in the next meeting of the “Open Balkan” initiative, which will be held in June in Ohrid, Northern Macedonia.
During an event in Podgorica, Abazovic said Montenegro had not joined the initiative, but had in the past participated in meetings as an observer.
“Personally, I think that any regional initiative that can accelerate European integration, not only of Montenegro but of the whole region, is something we have to accept. On the other hand, if someone wants to replace European integration, we are not interested. “But I have not yet heard a valid argument that the Open Balkans is not good for Montenegro,” Abazovic said.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic invited Abazovic to join the next meeting of the regional initiative “Open Balkans” in Ohrid on May 25 in Davos, Switzerland.
The “Open Balkans” initiative is a continuation of the Balkan “mini-Schengen”, presented in Novi Sad, Serbia on October 10, 2019, by the leaders of Serbia, Northern Macedonia and Albania.
When the “Open Balkans” initiative was introduced, then Montenegro with the Government of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), refused to participate in this regional initiative.
However, the new Prime Minister, Dritan Abazovic, supports the concept of this initiative.
Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina do not support this initiative.
