The “Open Balkans” initiative, according to the vice president of the Kosovo Assembly, is a good opportunity to increase cooperation between Albania and Kosovo in particular and the Balkans in general.
“I see it as an opportunity for a new movement of cooperation, while in Kosovo-Albania relations, if the EU does not expand towards us, I think it is our legitimate right that we expand towards Albania and Albania expands towards Kosovo in every field of cooperation“, says Enver Hoxhaj, in an interview for “Top Story”.
According to him, the Albanian factor in the Balkans is similar to the German factor in Europe. Albanians now have more influence than ever, adds Hoxhaj, and this fact must be used.
“I think that Albanians should think about geography correctly. Albanians should interpret the demography correctly, the fact that there are two Albanian states in the Balkans, Albania and Kosovo, and that the Albanians in North Macedonia have never had as much influence as recently or with Dritan Abazovic in Montenegro.
I think that we have to interpret this geography, this economy, this emotional culture with a form of cooperation, that things cannot stand still. I see the Albanian factor in the Balkans, similar to the German factor in Europe, in terms of role.
I think that during the last 10 years in Albania, there has been an economic explosion, an economic turn. I am of the opinion that the Albanian factor should be in a completely new dimension of this cooperation. Can the Open Balkans be a framework? Should the meetings between the government of Kosovo and Albania, the government of North Macedonia or Montenegro also serve? I think yes”.
