Albania collects 3 international medals in the 27th edition of the Balkan Indoor Athletics Championship that took place in Istanbul, Turkey.
Shkodra long jump athlete Izmir Smajlaj managed for the sixth time in a row to be declared the Balkan champion in his discipline where he jumped 7.79 meters.
With this jump he left with 8 cm then the Croatian athlete Marko Ceko with 7.71 and that of Northern Macedonia Andreas Trajkovski with the jump 7.62 m.
Meanwhile, Albania won two more medals with the athlete Luiza Gega. The Albanian athlete was declared the champion of the Balkans in the 3000 meters discipline, stopping the stopwatch in 9 minutes and 15 seconds, to leave behind the Turkish athlete Emine Mecal and the Romanian Ankuta Bobocel.
Gega also won a silver medal in the 1500m where she led for most of the race to her final meters losing the final sprint to Turkish athlete Shilan Aildiz while Romania’s Lenuta Petronela came in third.
Together with the medals of this edition of this Balkan championship, which more closely resembles a European one, since about 21 European countries participate.
