Amnesty International has documented three attacks that killed at least nine civilians, including children, in the city of Kharkiv on 28 February.
The human rights group described the attacks in Ukraine’s second largest city, which took place at the same time as talks between Ukraine and Russia in Belarus, as “possible war crimes”.
One of these attacks, which took place at 12:30 pm local time in Kharkiv, involved a Russian-made 300 mm Smerch missile with 9N235 cluster munitions, indicating that the attack had been launched by Russia.
At least four civilians were killed in the attack, including a child and three people collecting drinking water.
Another attack on the same day also involved a 300 mm Smerch missile on the city’s central Klochkivska road. Her blow hit the leg of a woman who had gone shopping during a curfew break. She died soon after.
