UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that the UN is organizing another evacuation from Mariupol today.
“We must continue to do everything we can to get people out of these hellish landscapes.” he said.
The UN has indicated it was providing support, including psychological support, to survivors being evacuated from the southern city.
In his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, Guterres said he had stressed the need to enable humanitarian access and evacuations from the besieged areas, including, above all, Mariupol.
Yesterday Putin said Russian forces were ready to provide safe passage for civilians who remain stranded at the plant. He also said Ukraine should order its fighters to lay down their arms and surrender, according to Moscow officials.
On the other hand Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his night speech, stated that Russian forces had not stopped the bombing of the Azovstal steel plant.
