A horrific chain of accidents on a snow-covered highway has left at least three people dead yesterday in Pennsylvania, with dozens of vehicles destroyed, in what local media described as ‘war scenes’.
REPORTS talked about unstoppable crashes after the initial ones, explosions and drivers getting out of their cars to avoid collisions.
The collision involved about 30 vehicles including five trucks, and occurred on the Interstate 81 freeway this morning.
At least three people had lost their lives according to the local network WKOK radio.
Visibility was deteriorating due to snow and fog as the accident had blocked all exits of the highway segment, Pennsylvania transportation authorities wrote.
The video footage posted on the network showed people getting out of their vehicles to escape from cars coming towards them out of control.
The footage included at least one truck that was leaking oil. Black smoke was seen at the site of an explosion where emergency teams were working.
Authorities remained at the scene of the mass clash until Monday afternoon, the local network reported. Skook Newswho added that forensics was also present.
