The Attorney General is attending the European Conference of Prosecutors taking place in Palermo on 5-6 May. This meeting was organized in the framework of the Italian presidency of the Council of Europe and focused on issues related to the independence, autonomy and accountability of prosecutors.
Part of the discussions at this Conference are issues of development of standards and guidelines related to the career of prosecutors and the effective exercise of the profession of prosecutor as well as increasing cooperation between prosecutors of different countries regarding the promotion of European standards of the rule of law.
The event will also address issues related to ensuring an effective role of the prosecution in relation to environmental crimes and the challenges posed by financial crimes in virtual reality, also in the framework of international cooperation in the criminal field.
The conference was opened by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Italy Mr. Giovanni Salvi and was greeted by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mrs. Marija Pejcinovic Buric. Its final session will take place at the memorial of Giovanni Falcones and Paolo Borselino and will be greeted by the President of the Republic of Italy HE Sergio Mattarella.
