If Italy blocks the delivery of 250,000 doses of Astrazeneca vaccine, Australia will take action.
In fact, it seems Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has taken the issue very seriously and is threatening retaliation. The payoff will come in the form of a boycott of the most famous Italian pasta recipes, ranging from carbonara to ragout.
It all started with a Twitter message from Naaman Zhou, a Guardian journalist, who posted on his page a photo with linguine writing on the side: “As long as Italy does not send 250 thousand doses of AstraZeneca, I will break these I will prepare the pasta with a pana sauce that I will call carbonara ”.
His post was considered a major insult to this early Italian gastronomic tradition. It did not take long for other threats to erupt on the network. “BBC journalist Kate Silver joked in the same way: ‘I will cook my pasta with seafood, and I will toss brown cheese on it.’ Meanwhile, there is now talk of a ragua embargo, and even the famous Italian pizza has not escaped the attacks. Italy blocked the AstraZeneca and Oxford vaccine shipments to Australia two days ago, the first time the EU has imposed rules on vaccines outside the European Union.
