Sergio Aguero has decided to retire from football. The Argentine striker transferred to Barcelona in the summer transfer window as a free agent and recently had heart problems, which forced him to make the premature decision.
The 33-year-old suffered a cardiac arrhythmia in the match against Alaves, which was played on November 30th. The Latin player has performed numerous tests during this period, as today, through tears, he gave the sad news in his statement to the media.
“I want to inform you that I have decided to retire from professional football. These are very difficult moments, but at the same time I am happy for the decision I made.
My health comes first and after what happened the doctors have advised me that final withdrawal is the best decision.
I made this decision ten days ago. I tried to see if there was any hope, but there was not much. I am very proud and happy for the career I have developed.
Ever since I was 5 years old I dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. While kicking the ball, I dreamed of playing in the elite of Argentine football, it never occurred to me that I would arrive in Europe.
Thank you Independent, Atletico Madrid who believed in me when I was 18, I want to thank Manchester City, they know how I feel about them. I gave my best to that team and I was treated very well there.
I also want to thank Barcelona and President Laporta for contacting me. I knew that I was coming to one of the biggest clubs in Europe, I was treated very well.
In the end I want to thank the Argentine national team, which is what I want more than anything else. I am leaving with my head held high and happy, I do not know what awaits me in the next life, but I have many people who love me and want the best from me.
I thank both the journalists and those who did not treat me well. I heartily thank all the fans of the clubs where I played, from which I keep the good things I have experienced“, Concluded the Argentine striker.
Aguero wore the Argentine national team jersey 104 times, managing to score 41 goals and win the America’s Cup (2021). With Argentina U23 won the Gold Medal at the 2008 Olympics, while winning two World Cups with Argentina U20 (2005, 2007).
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old from Quilmes, who is the best goal scorer in the history of Manchester City, won 17 trophies during his adventures with Atletico Madrid and “Cityznes”.
