Adriatik Lapaj’s lawyer told Top Talk today what he talked about with US Ambassador Yuri Kim in an interview with journalist Denis Dyrnjaja.
Lapaj said this was not a casual meeting, and that he has met with the US ambassador from time to time.
Excerpts from the interview
Dyrnjaja: Was it a casual meeting?
Lapaj: It was not accidental, I met the ambassador constantly, at the beginning I met him at a sea cleaning activity and since then we have met at several different activities. Yesterday was a working coffee, where we discussed the problems of families in need, I expressed my thoughts.
Dyrnjaja: Did he ask you or did you tell him yourself?
Lapaj: It was a very fluid meeting, what she herself has published on her social network, she talked about democracy, the rights of citizens for referendum processes, the fact that citizens should not delegate too many rights but should to ask for them, to build democracy itself, that democracy is something that is not donated but people should seize this opportunity and the ambassador was impressed by my approach to this concept. So of the citizen who engages himself in the life of the country without expecting from others.
Dyrnjaja: How did the ambassador think that Albanians are lazy people or are engaged?
Lapaj: From the meeting with him I realized that the model of engaged people should be added to this country beyond the divisions and political trenches that are occupied from morning to evening. The day after the elections, citizens must demand that their rights be accounted for.
Dyrnjaja: There is a theory that is often circulating in the media, that of an excess of the presence of the ambassador in the internal affairs of the country, how do you think this is excessive?
Lapaj: If you ask me in principle, I say that we, our state, must build it ourselves, we must do justice ourselves, health ourselves and friends in this country must respect them as long as friends are respected. The problem is that we have failed to do justice, to govern the country democratically, we have failed to establish the rule of law and the moment we failed in these, you remember that a few years ago the biggest problem that arose in every poll was justice. And we sought the help of our greatest ally, and is there a problem with this process, I am one of the first to set them up. I also talked to the ambassador about this.
